Each ring in the CR-500 range is produced from an exceptional raw ceramic material and subjected to a carefully controlled high-temperature firing process. This creates a rigid, chemically inert ring with a dense network of micro-pores running throughout its structure. The porous matrix provides an enormous colonisable surface area far exceeding that of plastic or standard bio-balls — giving beneficial bacteria like Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter vastly more attachment points to establish large, stable biofilm colonies that efficiently convert toxic ammonia (NH₃) into nitrite (NO₂) and then into the far less harmful nitrate (NO₃).
